In the Field: Día de los Muertos

Each year, La Calaca Flaca and Fleisher Art Memorial host the Día de los Muertos procession and celebration.

The Mexican tradition of celebrating deceased loved ones through community and offerings, known as Día de los Muertos, has spread across Latin America, and even to Philadelphia and across the United States. The Día de los Muertos Celebration and Procession is hosted annually and is rooted in the vibrant South Philadelphia Mexican and Latinx community. Artists, organizations, and community members come together to share different aspects of their culture through arts, dance, food, and more.
Community events like these are crucial to the cultural preservation of the diverse groups that comprise the Latinx diaspora, as they encourage participants to learn, foster relationships, share knowledge, and preserve traditions.
