About Us
Actívate is a multimedia collaborative that produces documentaries, engages in cultural preservation, and develops creative strategies focused on art and social change. Through weaving cultural organizing and participatory processes into our work, we develop critical storytelling projects alongside artists in the Philadelphia region and beyond.
Mission
We create long-term collaborations with community through media for social change. We create critical content that uplifts media representation, while also showing underrepresented communities in joy and celebration. We also believe it’s important for creatives to tell stories that are representative of their own experiences.
History
We see the power in activating stories for social change. Actívate/Activate signifies to “make something active” (in Spanish and English respectively). In movement spaces, it alludes to coming together in community and activating a space in order to create impact.
Actívate grew out of the Founder’s 12+ years within the Philadelphia arts/media/social justice sector.
